Project overview
Drive
A vehicle replacement decision tool that compares complete future cash flow instead of fuel savings alone.
Purpose and functionality
What this project does
Drive helps an owner decide whether replacing a current vehicle improves their financial position and when the replacement pays back. It models gasoline, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles on a monthly ledger, with up to six candidates compared against one baseline.
The analysis covers changing mileage and energy prices, purchase and financing cash flow, insurance, registration, maintenance, repairs, component lifecycles, and other planned costs. Results include cash payback, break-even mileage, horizon savings, return on investment, discounted value, lifetime ownership cost, sensitivity analysis, goal seeking, and an explicit result when no break-even occurs.
Signed-in users can keep reusable garage vehicles, candidates, listings, saved searches, and scenario snapshots. Owned and collaborative scenarios have distinct owner, editor, and viewer roles, while revocable results-only links support narrowly scoped sharing.
